Sketchbook Jan 08/09 2008 & Definition of Losersyncrasies

Missed a day on the 7th for drawing, but I was busy all day working on a design for Paramount Apparel, otherwise, Im still making good progress for the year in drawing...

I've sent in my 6 comps for the military shirts, and they seem to like them, they said they "ROCK!" so... I'm almost done with the gig. After approval from the customer, Ill just slap the different branches on each shirt and be done with... I have my first big check on the way too.

I have nothing else lined up except making clip art, and self promotions, so we'll see where the next paycheck will come from, which is exciting to think about... Who knows if my next client will be totally awesome, or totally crappy and boring, regardless, better than work work. I thought about my friend Tiffany who works for my last employer. They were nice employers, but egad, if I was still there, I would be the biggest living dead prick in the world. Sparsely fluorescent lit dungeon, surfing the web half the day, working on the same designs I did the year before, with the same content, the same ambiguous art direction, and wasting time creating speculative work because the bosses didnt want to bother to phone the customer to see what they wanted. Rant rant rant. I could go on forever... Screw working for other people, not because the work sucks, but the people who you have to deal with make the interaction with the artist and the customer that much more ineffective and frustrating.

Anyways.

I quit smoking as well since New Years. (Again for the 4th or 25th time for the past year) I was a non smoker for 3 years the last time I gave up the smokes on New Years, so maybe this time...

I tell you what, I do love smoking... or at least my body does... why cant they put Nicotine in vegetables, or something healthy...

your rant about your previous employer is a description to the tee of my last employer. i too am freelancing now and am really concentrating on illustration and less on graphic design. it's hard, but better then the alternative.

good luck.
